Getting Ready for your Flea Treatment
The bad news is… You’ve got fleas.
The good news is… You called Toby’s Pest Control.
Check out these quick tips below to make sure your flea extermination service goes smoothly…
Identify the source
There is one thing that is very important to understand about fleas – they need a host to survive. A host is any animal that the flea population feeds off of. This is most commonly animals like cats, dogs, racoons, and sometimes mice. Fleas cannot survive off humans long term, they need the dense hair of furry mammals to survive. They can however, bite humans and leave annoying rashes.
Before a Toby’s Pest Control technician gets to your home, try to identify a couple of potential flea hosts. This will better help our technician exterminate the pests.
Get your pet treated
If you have pets like dogs, cats, or other furry friends, make sure to get them treated with a vet recommended flea medication. There are many vet offices in Bowling Green that can recommend the best flea exterminating medications.
You don’t have to get your pet treated before or the day of our flea extermination. But, it does need to be done within a couple days of our service. It is best to kill off the fleas in one clean swoop instead of staggered treatments.
Vacuum and Dry
VACUUM all rug and carpet areas of your home. This will help release any flea adults or eggs that may be hiding deep in the fibers.
DRY any cloth materials on HIGH HEAT that are in close proximity to flea activity. The hot temperatures of a dryer will kill any adult fleas and eggs. Items that should be dried can include things like pet bedding, blankets, bed comforters, and pillows.
Take a hike
At the end of the flea treatment service, our pest control technician will preform a “fogging” or “misting” treatment inside your home. This is an airborne product that needs about 90 minutes to settle and dry. They will do this in any area of the home where flea activity is found or possible. This may include your whole house, or just a single room.
If the flea problem is limited to the exterior, then Toby’s Pest Control will only treat the outside areas of the property. The pricing of your service will depend on the size and severity of the infestation.
